From a young punk surfer on the North Shore of Auckland to one of Australia and New Zealand’s most internationally acclaimed hairstylists, Richard Kavanagh is now one of the biggest names in hairdressing, named Australian Session Stylist of the Year in 2014 and 2015.
For several seasons Richard travelled to New York, Milan and Paris twice a year to work with world renowned hairstylist Guido Palau on many of the world’s most highly sought after fashion shows including Prada, Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, Versace, Luis Vuitton, MiuMiu, Jean Paul Gaultier, Yves Saint Laurent. A Redken Session Stylist since 2001 and a platform artist since 1997, Richard is constantly touring and educating around the globe, working with the world’s best hair styling teams and individuals.
Richard has also himself directed New York Fashion Week shows for Nomia, Tribune Standard, and Lorry Newhouse to name a few. As well as Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia shows for Jenny Kee, Michael Losordo, Kate Sylvester, Zambesi, Johanna Johnson and Net a Porter at Audi Race Week (and many more).
Richard’s wealth of knowledge in hair and fashion has made him one of Australia’s most sought after editorial stylists, and his work has been seen in the pages and covers of Vogue (Australia, Italia, Ukraine, Turkey), Harper’s Bazaar (Australia, UK, Germany), Marie Claire, Oyster, Instyle, Black and Elle. Richard also works on advertising campaigns for major clients such as Redken, Lee Denim, Sunglass Hut, Aveeno, Sunsilk, Etienne Aigner, Zambesi, Strateus Carlucci to name a few
